The tag price in a Dubai gold shop is built from three parts — knowing them is how you negotiate.
Metal value at the daily rate
Weight × today's karat rate — the non-negotiable part, identical in every shop and shown live on this page. Ask for the weight and karat printed separately on the invoice.
Making charges (negotiable)
Roughly AED 15–40 per gram for machine-made pieces, more for handmade and designer work. This is where shops compete — 'zero making charge' festival offers are real, but verify the metal weight pricing still matches the daily rate.
5% VAT — with refunds
VAT applies to the invoice total, but tourists reclaim it at departure on purchases over AED 250, and investment-grade gold (99%+) is zero-rated B2B. Bars and TT biscuits are the tax-efficient way to hold metal.
Silver follows the same mechanics: today's rate is AED 6.80 per gram (≈ AED 6,803 per kilo), with 925 sterling jewellery worth 92.5% of the pure rate. Platinum and palladium trade in the UAE mainly through bullion dealers rather than the souks.
