Understand Gross, Net, Stone, Pure weight & purity
Understand Gross, Stone, Net and Pure weight and how purity (karat fineness) drives metal value in jewelry software — with the exact formulas.
Steps
- 1Gross Weight = the whole item; Stone Weight = gemstones to subtract.
- 2Net Weight = Gross − Stone (the metal only).
- 3Purity is the decimal fineness (24K = 1.000, 22K = 0.9166, 18K = 0.750).
- 4Pure Weight = Net × Purity — this is what metal value is charged on.
